Austin Peay Physics Major Needs Your Vote

Guitar Center Presents “Cover Me Zedd”, a competition for artists and producers to submit their BEST cover or remix of Zedd’s latest single, “I Want You To Know” (feat. Selena Gomez). Adrian Parker has entered the contest and needs your vote.

A native of Franklin, Tennessee, Parker started putting songs together around the age of 12 and while in college (rapping under the moniker, “Geenyus”), his first solo album, “Tha Laboratory Vol. 1: Tha Experiment” was released in 2007 and was followed up with “Shock Therapy” in 2014. When asked about how he came up with the name, “Geenyus”, Parker said, “It came from life. From the time I was a kid, family, friends, etc. introduced me like, “Yo, this dude is a real life genius. The smartest cat I ever met.” I decided to use it.”

Parker graduated from Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, TN) in 2007 with a B.S. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. In 2010, he received a M.A. in Physics from Fisk University (Nashville, TN). In August of 2015, he received an M.S. in Computer & Information Systems Engineering and is aiming to earn his PhD in Computer & Information Systems Engineering (research emphasis on lithium-ion battery optimization – electric vehicles, etc.) in 2016.

Aside from music, Parker spent 5 years as an athletic director for a youth football league and spent the summers teaching science (Robotics, Physics, Math, etc.) programs for the youth (Elementary-College). He is also a single father of 2 sons.

In reference to why you should support him in this contest, Parker not only wants you to enjoy the music, but stated,  “I want a platform to show just how far you can take it. Sports and music aren’t the only avenues available when you come from a street background, as long as you get out before the felonies hit you. Getting out without the felonies is IMPORTANT. Do music because you love it, not because it’s just something to do. If you don’t have love for it, find something you DO love and move out of the way so the ones that DO love it (like me) can do their thing.”

Adrian “Geenyus” Parker has the chance to win the following:

  • Studio time with Zedd in Los Angeles
  • A meeting with Interscope Records
  • A mentoring session with Blood Company (The management team behind Zedd)
  • $10,000 Cash
  • A feature with Insomniac and a V.I.P. experience at this year’s 20th Aniversary of Nocturnal Wonderland
  • New gear and products from 8DM, GoPro, Native Instruments, Pioneer, QSC, and Roland
  • A write-up in DJ Mag USA
