Felonious Munk – Stop It, B!

Interview By: Tyrone Davis

A Q & A with Felonious Munk, a comedian known on youtube for his, “Stop It, B!” video rants.

Munk! What’s going on Fam?
Just laughing and learning family!

Let’s start off at the beginning. Who is Felonious Munk? Explain your background for us.
I’m a comedian. Not just by trade, but I’ve always viewed life from a somewhat humorous standpoint. I’m an East Coast Guy, currently living in VA, but I’ve always had a larger worldview. No area code bias here.

When did you discover you had a knack for comedy and what was your first “Stand Up” experience like?
I’ve always had a knack. Family & friends have consistently said “this was always your calling”. Wish they told me that bs before I worked all of those other jobs. My first stand up was crazy. I did an open Mic with “Crew of Laughs” which is a group of comedians out of the Hampton Roads area of VA. The CEO is a good brother named Legacy of Sleeper (don’t ask bro) and he asked me to give it a shot. I had 2 goals that night…make people laugh,

and send them home with something to think about. I remember using the phrase “it’s not what you’re looking at, it’s how you’re looking at it” as the basis for the whole set. The woman I was dating at the time brought ALL of her coworkers out to support. (thanks Mel) and it was love from the second i touched the stage.

Ok, moving forward. I came across your videos for the first time when you released your “Stop It B! (Bathroom Models) Episode 2. I was able to identify with what you were saying immediately because I went to school for graphic design/photography myself and I have to go through the nonsense you were referring to. How did the “Stop It B!” videos come about and for our reader’s who haven’t seen the video, how do you feel about people giving themselves titles (model, photographer, rapper etc.) they aren’t built for?
The prototype for the series was a video called “Munk’s advice to local rappers”. That was shot in a Sleep’s living room with some friends. My man Jah Streetz had a camera and just caught me in rare form. I was introduced to Samuel Rogers at an event my man Zoo put together and Sam had seen the video. I didn’t know at the time that Sam was a REAL photographer, lol. But a couple weeks later we were in the studio making magic. BTW…I just realized that half of my friends don’t have real names. I need new friends B.

Let’s talk about “The Thirst”. This rant reminded me of one of my partners from high school. He was from New York and had been trying to get at this female in the days before she moved (military brats). The night before she left, we all went to an event on the base. He catches up with her and they end up trying to sneak off somewhere. As I let him go do his thing and continued socializing, a few other dudes from school see them, and run over to where they were going. He comes back about 15 mins later (by himself) pounding his fist like “Niggas is MAD thirsty, Son!” He was furious and it stuck with me because he kept repeating it over and over again. Until that point (2001), I had never heard the term. Break down “The Thirst” and explain why it needs to be released lol.
THE THIRST!!!!! Yes… cats have sex continuously on the brain. I get that. But fam…we no longer have any level of concern for quality. it’s ALL quantity. Women being objectified…not new. But the blatant and aggressive way we go at women…that’s recent. If I see an attractive woman I can’t even compliment her anymore because dudes have overdosed on “damn you are beautiful shorty” “I’ll drink your bath water” etc. Come on fam… it’s not that serious. It’s not just men either… Women need to sip something too.

You’ve spoken out on your distaste for both Soulja Boy’s and Gucci Mane’s antics and music. Elaborate on this.
First let me say…although I don’t personally like/listen to their music…it’s a matter of taste. I listen to some southern MC’s so it’s not a regional thing. I just don’t hear anything in their music that is of any value. I’m probably too grown for Soulja and Gucci…I just don’t want to listen to “music” with lyrics that are slurred. And the argument that it’s his accent doesn’t fly with me. Andre 3000 has an accent. Hell Lil Wayne has an accent. I just think “burr” is some “bull”. But the face tats? I’m not even going to address that basura.

Who do you listen to, musically?
All genres (although I’m not enlightened enough yet to bang with much Country & Western). Depending on my mood. Hip hop…Jay Z, Roots, Talib, Kanye…Jeezy, Ross, Odd Future…I listen to anything dope. And dope for different reasons. Some music lyrically is so intricate that it’s just bananas…and some has content that I appreciate. I’m not THAT stuck up. Maybe it’s just the bounce that I can’t cook with.

We are in the Internet age where anything posted has the potential to be seen by millions. Being that those millions are protected by anonymity, a lot of them tend to be more disrespectful when commenting on posted material. How has the feedback been for you thus far and how do you respond to the posters who may come off as disrespectful?
Most of the postings are positive and respectful. Then again…I rarely read the posts on World Star lol. Seriously, anytime I get a disrespectful comment, I generally reply “thanks for watching”. That’s all the energy I can muster.

Based on what you’ve seen via the Internet and in life in general, do you agree that people as a whole seem to be becoming less and less intelligent?
I think people are less critical in their thinking and more likely to follow a trend. The intelligence is there. But some are lazy and refuse to do research.

I’m going to throw a few phrases out there. Break down each of them for us.

A.“Real Man” vs. “Real Nigga”

Let me be clear….I don’t care if a man calls himself nigga. Doesn’t bother me in the least. HOWEVER, the mentality that somehow elevates nigga to a status that should be aspired to…we can’t even agree on the accepted meaning of the word, when it can be used, by whom…man is less ambiguous and has an entirely positive connotation. Unfortunately in our community “positive” is often synonymous with lame

B. “The “Buckshot Approach”

One of my favorites… this is when you have 0 game and approach every woman/man you see with the same lines hoping that the odds are in your favor. Eventually somebody has to say yes, right?

C. “Niggas Ain’t Shit”

LADIES PLEASE CUT THIS ALL THE WAY OUT!!!!!

In reference to women, from experience I’ve learned that a lot of women don’t like to accept responsibility for their own actions and would rather point the finger back at the males.
Nuff said. That’s an overall mentality that needs to be destroyed.

How do you feel about “Conspiracy Theories”?
Some are more than theories. Some are… not worth the breath used to speak them. lol

What is a “Bejing”?
It’s a dye used in men’s hair to give it a deeper color. it also makes the edge up look sharper. But…it’s like makeup for men. I’ll pass

Many comics use their comedy to get a lot of social issues across to the public. How does comedy help vs. you simply trying to “preach” to people?
I laugh at life’s absurdity. Preaching works when you have a captive audience. Comedy is the universal language. Who hates to laugh?

There are a lot of issues going on in the world, especially with our people. At this point, our worse enemy is ourselves. Do you think we will ever “Stop it” as a whole or have things gotten so far out of control that there is no hope?
There’s always hope B….always.

I need a “Stop It B” T-Shirt. How can I get one and how can you be reached for business?
Stop it B shirts will be available (possibly on your site) June 15th. Anyone trying to book me should hit Fmonk72@gmail.com or follow my twitter www.twitter.com/felonious_munk or my fan page www.facebook.com/feloniousmunkfans
