Former NBA player Josh Childress isn’t “broke” by any means. He understands his numbers and cents, so he breaks down his rookie contract and the spending advice he got from his veteran teammates.
Following “the norm” has never been something Josh Childress was willing to do. From choosing to attend Stanford to deciding to leave the NBA to play overseas, Josh has made it a point to be himself and live by his own rules. Yet, no one really knows why this basketball player known for his curly-afro and potential would decide to pass on an opportunity that so many young guys hope to get. But then again, he isn’t worried what other people think.
DEPLOYED Series
Each season, the NBA only employs 450 players. What happens to all those who don’t make it? Some of them go play professional basketball overseas. It may sound like a dream job, but language barriers and loneliness are only some of the challenges players deal with. In our latest video series, “DEPLOYED,” Grit Media follows the journey of 3 American basketball players as they prepare to leave everything behind and play abroad professionally.
